A Brief History of me and RunDisney

So I don't try to hide that I am a Disney Fanatic.   It is also safe to say I'm slightly competitive (mainly with myself).

So one year back in 2008 I was walking around Disneyland and I saw a bunch of people walking around with their packet pick up bags for the Disneyland Half Marathon.  I did some research on the subject and learned that you get to run through the park, go into the backlots of parks, and that the characters were out.   Sounds pretty awesome to me.  The only downside was that it involved running.

So I decided in 2009 I would do the Disneyland 5k.  I get all the perks of running through the park with out having to run the distance. (Since running really wasn't my thing). The race started at the Disney Parking structure, took you through California Adventures, then through Disneyland with the Finish Line being on Main Street.   I had so much fun I didn't even realize it involved this thing called "running".

However my competitive side came out as I was picking up my race bib and saw people of different shapes and sizes picking up their half marathon race packets.   I started thinking if they all could do it, so could I.   So in 2010 I did my first half marathon at Disneyland.   Definitely not fast and at mile 8 I was wondering what I had gotten myself into.  But I finished, and got my medal.

Since then, I have been doing at least 1 RunDisney race every year.  I guess, for right now,  you can say its kind of my thing.

The races I have participated in to date are:

2009 Disneyland 5k
2010 Disneyland Half
2011 Disneyland Half
2012 Tinkerbell Half*
2012 WDW Wine and Dine Half*
2013 Tinkerbell Half
2014 Tinkerbell 10K
2014 Tinkerbell Half

*Coast to Coast Challenge Completed

I have one more RunDisney on books for this year.  Going back to the Disneyland Half over labor day weekend.  With the Goofy Challenge coming up in January.  More details on the Goofy Challenge coming up in several future blogs.
